[Above: Live Event panelists Bette Dzamba and Hannah Loeb talking with Amelia.]
Two NEW dynamic panelists, Nancy Allen and Alanna Mitchell, will help me present my debut full-length collection of poetry, “Species of Concern,” — exploring a variety of concerns and an array of tones and voices.
Our Panelists
[In their own words, with some additions by Amelia to brag on them (= sneakily ameliorated)].
Nancy E. Allen is a poet, yoga teacher, and DC-based criminal defense attorney whose practice is primarily homicides and violent crimes. She has been part of Amelia’s poet group since they met at the Tinker Mountain Writer’s Workshop at Hollins University in 2012 (which is to say Amelia begged her to join and is so glad she did). (Nancy’s exactingly-crafted, often wry poems have been featured in the Kenyon Review, JMWW, Shot Glass Journal, and elsewhere).
Alanna Mitchell is an award-winning journalist, author, and playwright based in Toronto. (Her one-woman play Seasick, based on the book of the same title, won accolades at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She and Amelia met in college in Toronto and froze their buns off at an International Women’s Day parade/event on March 8th. Alanna was Amelia’s inspiration to get out in the streets and make one’s voice heard. They also recently hiked the St. Cuthbert’s Trail in Scotland together. Read Alanna’s feature article about the adventure!)
Resources
Before the day (April 26th, 2 PM) – check out these resources to prepare for the celebration!
- Poems packet (PDF) to download if you want to read along.
- Species of Influence slide show similar to the old-timey Natural History Museum/Curios & Art Display we had during the in-person launch. An immersive experience. (Instructions and tips below). I’d prefer that you didn’t download it, but if you do, please eat it after viewing. Like a secret spy message.
- Recipes for the Wild Ink cocktails: bitter, sweet, and strong. Inkling and Blink Zero Proof if you want to celebrate too – it’s a launch! BYO snacks.
Instructions for the sideshow:
Open the link. It will look like this, choose the speaker icon to begin the sound and click on the slide show icon (red arrow). Use the forward arrow to advance the sides at your own pace.
